Melissa brings nearly a decade of experience in strategic communications, public relations, partner development and targeted marketing to JT.
Melissa’s professional experience includes Urban Prep Academies, After School Matters, and EverThrive Illinois. While serving as National Advocacy Coordinator for the American Association of Diabetes Educators, she focused on advancing state and federal legislation in support of the work of healthcare professionals who teach diabetes self-management training and education.
Most recently, Melissa worked as a Health Communications Specialist for Westat in Atlanta, Georgia. In this role, she led communications strategies, campaign marketing execution, and partnership development as a contractor for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Melissa is a graduate of Spelman College, where she earned a Bachelor’s in Sociology/Public Health. She also earned a Masters in Health Communication from DePaul University with a special focus on engagement strategies for unique and diverse audiences. Her academic work focused on the use of mobile technology in the delivery of information regarding health disparities, particularly that which impacted large at-risk populations and minority communities.
